Transportation of the Deceased

Whether transporting a coffin or a funeral urn to a foreign country you will have to present a number of documents to foreign authorities and customs officials in order to successfully perform your delicate task. The minim set will consist of the following:

  • Certified copy of Death Certificate (duly authenticated for foreign use) with translation into target language (when applicable)
  • Official No Contagious Disease letter (duly authenticated for foreign use) with translation into target language (when applicable)
  • Certificate of Cremation - for urns (duly authenticated for foreign use) with translation into target language (when applicable)

Different countries will also have their own additional and unique requirements. Some such regulations may include one or more of the following: (i) examination of the contents of the coffin or an urn by the consular official of the target country; (ii) urn to be sealed; (iii) all documents to be bound together with consular certification.
